DePere Summer Lock Tours

De Pere lock and house, circa 1915. The house was built on an island and was only accessible by crossing the gates of the lock. Families used wheelbarrows or wagons to carry belongings across the top of the lock. Photo courtesy of De Pere Historical Society
Free guided tours of the De Pere lock will allow visitors to watch and learn how the lock is operated by hand, understand the 170 year history of the Fox River lock system and hear the stories of the locktenders and families who lived on Government Island.
